JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE

Alternative Facilitator

POSITION TYPE

Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Assists in the implementation of the alternative education program by performing duties related to academic support, behavioral intervention, and student supervision. Supports the instructional and behavioral process by preparing learning materials, monitoring student progress, assisting with data collection, supervising student activities, and ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment under the direction of the alternative school director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree or 48 semester credit hours from accredited institutions; or High School Diploma or equivalent with addition of passing a rigorous Work Keys for purposes of determining highly qualified status for teacher assistants under the No Child Left Behind legislation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge and/or experience related to area of assignment.
  • Skilled in handling varied multiple duties.
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-direction.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to perform all performance responsibilities.
  • Willingness to serve all students.
  • Ability to work with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Ability to move about in room to monitor students and check work in classrooms with varied seating and desk organization patterns.
  • Ability to assist in the implementation of an instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior, including outdoor activity areas, gymnasiums, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

REPORTS TO

Alternative School Director

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises students during academic work

  • Supports implementation of behavioral procedures

  • Monitors work completion and provides instructional support

  • Assists with de-escalation following district-approved procedures

  • Maintains documentation as needed

  • Communicates relevant concerns to program director

  • Ensures safety and positive climate in the alternative setting

  • Participates in staff development activities related to area of assignment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

187 days. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.

EVALUATION

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
